A group of five Chilliwack School Board candidates has joined forces ahead of the upcoming election, promising to refocus the district on literacy, numeracy, and critical thinking while giving parents a greater voice in education.
Trustees for Change are launching as an informal group of independent candidates for Chilliwack School District 33.
The group says its candidates will remain independently funded. If elected, they said they will not vote independently from one another, but they will coordinate on some campaign activities and expenses.
Michael Carter, one of the five candidates, told Juno News the candidates found each other through conversations in the community after arriving at similar conclusions about the direction of the school board.
“Once we met, the decision to campaign under one banner was practical,” Carter said.
