B.C. human rights tribunal rules conservative views not protected

The quasi-judicial body ruled that opposition to DEI was not a protected political position in the case of a professor denied a job at Simon Fraser University.

Although B.C.’s Human Rights Code nominally protects political belief, it did not assist a Simon Fraser University political science professor denied a job for not supporting DEI, and the tribunal declined in April to hear the case.

Josh Gordon taught at SFU’s policy school on contracts from 2014 to 2021 and applied for tenure track in 2021, but was rejected despite strong reviews, prior renewals, pay increases, and viewpoint diversity, according to the National Post.
