B.C. First Nation seeks to end Hudbay Copper Mine expansion

The Lower Similkameen Indian Band launched a petition to stop the expansion of Hudbay Minerals’ Copper Mountain Mine in British Columbia, citing the “goals expressed in UNDRIP,” the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, adopted by the provincial government last year.

Since UNDRIP became enforceable in B.C., several First Nations have launched lawsuits against the provincial government in response to various energy projects, such as mining and forestry.
