Five former B.C. Conservative MLAs have banded together to form a new provincial party, turning a wave of caucus defections into an organized political rival.
Rosalyn Bird, Bruce Banman and Á’a:líya Warbus joined Peter Milobar and Ian Paton Friday to form the yet-to-be-named party.
It will enter the legislature seeking official third-party status.
The group is pitching itself as a “stable, serious alternative” to the governing NDP amid weeks of turmoil within B.C. Conservatives under Leader Kerry-Lynne Findlay.
“We’re building on the momentum Peter and Ian have created over the last week and a half toward giving voters a stable, thoughtful alternative to the NDP,” Bird said.
She said the party would focus on the economy, healthcare, affordability, taxation and land rights.
