Honestly wth. No one cares! Tragic. That liberal policy needs to go!

Tracy Matts's avatar

Yes the policy needs to go but more importantly the Liberals need to go

This part of the Official Languages Act has been shoved down English-speaking Canada's throat since Trudeau the Elder arose. Except of course, in Quebec, where French only is the order of the day. And the sheep ate it up like so much manna from Heaven.

Enforced, no doubt by the Quebec Language Police who, since they heard about the Chinese Police stations in Canada, decided, "what the Hell, why not us, too?"

Revolting!

Some bureacrat trying to justify his existence. Alberta independence NOW!!!!!

James Turner's avatar

Yes, one of the French-speaking 'Petit Quebecois' distributed throughout the Civil Service in positions of petty power.

And maybe Saskatchewan too Vic.

I would be talking about the future war that could happen within Canada. The socialist Liberals are moving towards Communism. The U.S will not allow the ccp next to their border.

J Holden's avatar

Pierre Elliot Trudeau the communist did this to us with bilingualism.

Ah, The Lieberal Fascist Oligarchy bureaucracy at work. I once marketed a product out of Ontario and was told that I could not market it even in Ontario if: FRENCH was not FIRST and FOREMOST on the packaging. I said to them; "But I'm not even marketing it in Quebec." They replied: "We don't care. That's the law. In Canada, all products must be marketed with French FIRST and FOREMOST on all packaging." That was back in the late 1980s. It has only gotten worse since then. The proverbial tail wagging the dog here in Canada. As the Bi-Wonder once said; "Of course Quebecers are better than Canadians. Look at all the Quebec Prime Ministers. All the BEST Prime Ministers have been Québécois. Laurier, St. Laurent, Trudeau, Mulroney, Chretien..." Another reason for Alberta to leave Canada...Keep hammering those nails...

I remember well in my younger days this battle being fought and lost. I guess young people wouldn't know because real Canadian history is not taught.

If you grew up in Ontario, you will remember clearly the deep resentment and resistance to old man Trudeau’s pain in the ass “French” legislation. Folks learned how to truly hate Quebec and Quebecers……with a vengeance! We had some not-so-printable names for these wantabes!!

WTF. Just when one thought the federal bullshit just couldn’t pile on any deeper, along comes this crap. And guess who - the Canadian Food Inspection Agency who showed their true slavish intellect a very short time ago by senselessly slaughtered an entire herd of perfectly healthy, non-food, bird flu resistant ostriches which could easily have provided a solid preventative treatment for the disease. Why did they do that? Because some inky little bureaucrat in Ottawa had his mind already made up to do it and like most of the deep thinkers in this government was not going to be dissuaded by facts, science or logic. Berbon FFS! Nothing else to do I guess.

Wow how enlightening . After having visited lot of stores in a few provinces I have yet to see anyone checking the product by reading the labels before buying . My guess is the brand you are buying is the only concern . The size of the writing on the bottles in any language at the liquor store from shelf to being in the bag would indicate very little reading is taking place or of much concern other than the horrendous amount of taxes on the product. Unfortunately the federal government in any of the provinces is anxious for their money. This proved especially interesting during the pandemic when only stores that were selling necessities could remain open, I was never more aware of liquor and beer stores being required a required necessity.

PP should say, drop French requirements. Visitors to the country find it amusing. Also we'd get better politicians without this French matters nonsense. It's the only language you don't hear west of Thunder Bay.

Pull every bottle of Jack Daniels off the shelf in Quebec. No? Why not? Do francophones in Saskatchewan care? One does. Petty politics will be the end of the Confederation. Joke time: 3️⃣ Canadians go into a bar. One was Anglophone, the other a Korean immigrant. The Francophone refused the drink - which was Bourbon - because it wasn’t sauteed together with a French language label. Also, when you order a drink, you order it from a bartender - unless the “offended” individual was already talking to the bottle and got upset when it didn’t reply au francais…..
