Auto-exec says EV rebates being claimed by companies with no Canada footprint
An Ontario auto-part executive and Premier Doug Ford slammed the federal government for prioritizing electric vehicle mandates and rebates that benefit foreign companies.
An Ontario auto-part executive and Premier Doug Ford slammed the federal government for prioritizing electric vehicle mandates and rebates that benefit foreign companies with “no Canadian footprint,” just as Prime Minister Mark Carney prepares to open the market to over 60,000 low-cost, Chinese-made EVs.
During a joint press conference with Ontario’s auto industry leaders and unions, responding to the federal EV deal with China and its impact on Canada’s auto sector, Ford rejected the idea of reinstating provincial EV purchase rebates. Instead, he defended his government’s record of providing subsidies to automakers to build EV and battery components in Ontario.
