According to a Tuesday media release, officers were called around 9:40 a.m. Sunday in the area of Wyndham Street North and Macdonell Street, where they found the woman unconscious on the sidewalk. She was taken to the hospital.
Investigators said the 34-year-old Guelph man fled before police arrived but was identified and arrested later that night.
He faces charges of attempted murder and aggravated assault.

Guelph police media spokesperson Scott Tracy said there is “no ongoing threat to safety.”
Police added the victim and accused had met before but were “not considered close acquaintances.”
Officers are continuing their investigation and appealing for any potential witnesses to come forward.
