As Ontario Burns, Ottawa Announces $125 in Financing for Brazil
Ontario wildfires rage on, and the federal Liberals have announced $125M in loans for climate change initiatives in Brazil.
Northern Ontario continues to be on fire, blanketing southern Ontario and northern U.S. states in thick smoke, while the foreign affairs minister announced over $125M in funding for Brazil and an agreement between the two countries to fight wildfires.
As of Wednesday, Ontario reported 118 active wildfires across the Northwest and Northeast regions of the province, with the bulk of the flames raging across Northwest Ontario.
At the same time as fires raged across the region, enraging U.S. politicians and covering Ontario in flames or smoke, Global Affairs Canada announced $125 million in new “investments” to Brazil, including an $82.3 million loan “to support climate action and economic growth.”
Global Affairs Canada was not immediately available for comment.
