Alberta’s proposed West Coast pipeline would be built as a public-private partnership, drawing criticism from opponents. Prime Minister Mark Carney said the model “gives certainty to our businesses to build.”

Ahead of Thursday’s announcement, the Canadian Taxpayers Federation urged Premier Danielle Smith and Mark Carney to scrap carbon taxes and anti-pipeline laws instead of funding a proposed pipeline.

Will cost taxpayers nothing Kris. Taxpayers will make billions in ROI off just the pipeline alone - and hundreds of billions more off royalties, taxes and economic activity. Celebrate the W - it’s a good day.

“Governments are actively strangling pipelines with carbon taxes and stupid laws,” said Kris Sims, CTF Alberta Director. “These same governments are now planning to waste taxpayers’ money because government policies are standing in the way of pipelines.

“How much will this cost taxpayers?” she said late Thursday.
