Another tourist visiting Vancouver has been injured in a downtown stranger attack.
In a Monday morning news release, the Vancouver Police Department said that at about 11:30 a.m. on Aug. 3, a 40-year-old man was walking near Granville and West Pender Street when he was approached by a stranger who allegedly pushed him several times before walking away.
Moments later, police said, the same suspect allegedly approached a couple walking along Granville Street and violently threw one of them to the ground before fleeing on foot.
The female victim, a 30-year-old woman visiting from Germany, was later treated in hospital for minor physical injuries.
Witnesses saw the incident and chased the suspect to a nearby lane, where they held him until police arrived.
Vancouver police then, with the assistance of members of the public, arrested the man — Daniel James Johnny, 29 — just "minutes" later.
Johnny has a lengthy history with the British Columbia criminal courts and had made an appearance in Surrey Provincial Court just weeks before the alleged attack.
Court records obtained by True North show that a man of the same name and age has a lengthy criminal history including assault, uttering threats, and breaches of probation orders dating back to 2020 — with multiple court appearances and criminal convictions across the province.
Canada’s justice system - 0% justice for the rights of law abiding citizens & 100% leniency for criminals, (especially repeat offenders) = total insanity!
These repeat violent offenders should either be locked up for decades - or institutionalized in a locked facility for their lifetime....or failing the ability of Canada to get ANYTHING done on crime - lets ship them frozen to Denmark--> there's a zoo looking for food for its predators over there and these criminals would make a fine donation to preserving valuable wildlife.
