Public Safety Minister Gary Anandasangaree said that Alberta and Saskatchewan’s decisions to opt out of the Liberals’ gun confiscation program were “regrettable” and that it wasn’t “optional” for police to enforce the federal scheme.

His comments come as the eligibility period of the program comes to a close, with Ottawa falling wildly short of its targets to have its newly-prohibited firearms handed over to authorities voluntarily.
