Alberta’s UCP government is fighting back against the federal Liberals’ nicotine pouch ban, arguing the heavy-handed regulation is fueling the illegal tobacco trade and needlessly hindering Albertans who use the product to quit smoking.

In a joint letter to Prime Minister Mark Carney, Alberta Premier Danielle Smith and her Service Alberta and Red Tape Reduction Minister Dale Nally pushed back against the federal ban on commercial nicotine pouches, urging the feds to drop the “inconsistent” prohibition on retailers selling the products.
