The Alberta government has released draft regulations detailing how compensation will be determined for Albertans permanently injured in vehicle collisions.
Well ... It appears that even the Smith Government seems to have not learned from the experience of others in other locations.
This is one of those cases where those nine words "I'm from the Government and I'm here to help." should get Albertans quite upset at Smith and gang.
... Anywhere this has been done it has ended badly except for the Insurance companies.
Having said that and in general Smith is batting close to 1000 on almost every issue so this one is the exception.
She is, after all human but I suspect given what seems to be the overwhelming negative reaction on this one perhaps she will reconsider her course of action on this topic as well.
The province of Ontario has had no-fault insurance for 35 years. I was involved in an accident in 96. Once I got out of surgery for a broken leg, my insurance company "the Co-operators" took care of everything. We still had a settlement hearing between the two insurance companies in regards to fault and coverage. The other fellow was at fault and his insurance company flipped the entire bill that included surgery, rehab, auto repair and pain and suffering which I think I came out way better than expected. In my case my recovery lasted just under a year and I never missed a pay check and had a sizeable compensation for pain and suffering. The numbers that they are putting out in regards to loosing a hand or an eye seem low to me. If you look at your personal life insurance ( I'm only assuming that people have personal life insurance) the payouts are not much different.
Looks like a set up for the insurance companies. This same BS was done a few years back, in BC. It was a disaster. People ended up suing anyway. The insurance companies are escaping payouts. And the payout is on the individual. If the government wanted to do something effective, they would have better driver training and better traffic control , by having police patrols. As it is you never see a cop out there unless they're out out to get their monthly quota.

this is atrocious, someone who is permanently injured and unable to work in their chosen profession anymore cannot survive on this amounts!
