Exactly what do they want? They have been offered improvements, more schools, more teachers and EA’s, substantial increase in wages, …. The increase in wages is comparable to other unions within the province. ? What am I missing?

You're missing anything. These people are being pushed by a union that is there to represent the the lieberal rules and the corrupt ones influence the rest into voting the way they want. I haven't seen any teachers on the poverty line, or going food banks.

It is not about wages - that is the tip of the iceberg! It is about caps on class size and more aides in the classroom for all the inclusive education pushed into the class. Students with autism who do not have supports, students with learning disabilities are not getting the help they need - and 1000 teachers for 2500 schools will mostly go to Calgary and Edmonton - no help for rural teachers who are often teaching split grades. A lot of aides were let go in June due to lack of funding - and now the 1500 over four years is to make for that plus the plethora of other student needs in the classroom. Inclusive education is killing is all!

The only thing missing is caps on size in classrooms. Can it be done? Are they going to refuse admission? Then it is on the schools. This whole thing is going to take time to fix, but both sides have to be willing to work to fix it. The union is not going to have a perfect package handed to them - it will take time to get there. Do they actually want to? This looks like a hijacking.

Let stay on strike, for a whole year then offer them half the wage they've been getting. These people are supporting the fed lieberals. By creating grief for the province. And we will see more of this. It needs to be delt with a firm hand. Show them who is boss. This will weed out the useless ones. The ones who are there for the money, not to be teaching.

Why didn’t they strike in July so they would not affect parents who now have to figure out what to do with their kids. Oh wait, I forgot teachers were on vacation and didn’t want to affect their holiday plans. They are not concerned about the kids.

Thanks to the NDP and now NN. What did the NDP when in power other than wreck our economy by chasing investment money else where!

Why didn't the NDP have a NEW contract for teachers when in POWER??

Unions love this! NO disruptions in their lives. They still get paid & all they have to do is watch Parents Teachers & the students fall behind in education, scrambling for day care as such & teachers who will not make up the $$$! In essence, the unions win, no one else does!

Start promoting Home Schooling. They only work seven months out of the year, and given the apparent results of their work they don't deserve what they get now.

Go ahead and strike, walk off the job. You're not doing a very good job at teaching our children what they really need to learn anyway. Classroom is not the place to teach communism

The public sector unions and the ATA have become poison and a cancer on society. The government should allow these teachers to strike for the entire year and see how many of these "teachers" then have a change of heart....The pubic educational system has been high jacked by radicals and their politically militant ATA gestapo......

Bamboo: October 1 snapshot of life in Canada. Those of us fatigued with the whole 'reconciliation industry' have just endured another "Orange Shirt Day". Postal workers are on strike. Alberta teachers are about to walk out on October 6, leaving their 'beloved' students and their families scrambling to cope with yet another politically-induced hardship. The ATA and its' members are another pampered 'special interests' group whose ongoing militancy might well lead to more charter schools, home schooling, and a move away from Marxist-dominated public education.
