Despite Alberta teachers rejecting a settlement from the government for the second time, the province is stepping in place of teachers after they vowed to strike.
The teachers did not get everything they asked for. That’s ridiculous. The teachers are asking for more support in the classroom for all the special needs that require more than one teacher can give. Teachers are asking that classroom numbers be addressed and lowered especially in the younger grades as one person cannot possibly do it all.
As a teacher - and not one with a complex classroom like the majority of other teachers - I find this report to be one sided and offensive. If Juno News actually did their investigative reporting, they would dig down and discover WHY the teachers are striking! It is not about wages! And the 1500 aides and 3000 teachers over three years is a joke!! And then there is teacher attrition and many leaving due to stress and mental health- at least 50000 new students and an education budget built in block funding of “anticipated” growth and previous numbers! We, the teachers, are just asking for more help in classrooms amidst the multitude of learning needs required by students!
It seems to me that tbe teachers having been complaining about class size for decades. They have been given a lot of money to address this for decades as well. Mysteriously, the class size issue (if it is indeed an issue) never actually gets addressed. I'm thinking it never will. It is THE UNIONS very best bargaining chip and they really have nothing else to complain about. GET RID OF TEACHER'S UNION AND SAVE CHILDREN’S EDUCATION. They have a monopoly and do not need to address the obvious failures if the system. The students and the quality of their education are way down the list if the ATA's concerns.

I noticed that Alberta Government giving parents$$$ for the kids but your union isn't giving you strike pay! Who do u think cares more!?
They are using unpaid teacher salaries to pay the parents!
