The Assembly of First Nations submitted a report to the House of Commons rejecting any fixed deadlines for nation-building projects, calling it a pressure tactic and a shift away from “meaningful engagement.”

Prime Minister Mark Carney has repeatedly stressed the importance of engaging in consultations with First Nations when it comes to pipelines or other projects of national interest that will affect their communities, while also legislating a one-year cap to expedite their process.
