Campaign Life Coalition is raising concerns about the possibility of assisted suicide for babies with severe deformities after a Quebec physician’s past remarks resurfaced, though no such cases have been reported to date.

“These are not concerns from the fringes, but statements from a member of a provincial medical college, recommendations before parliament, and the reality of MAiD right now in Canada,” says Brandan Tran, Director of Public Affairs and Outreach for Campaign Life Coalition.

“A member of the Quebec College of Physicians formally stated that MAiD ‘may be an appropriate treatment for babies’ from birth to one year of age with severe deformities,” he continued.

A Quebec physician reportedly suggested assisted suicide for infants up to one year old with severe conditions. "Babies cannot speak, cannot consent, and cannot ask for help. If we cannot draw the line here, I'm not sure where medical professionals imagine the line to be."
