Adam Zivo & the latest from Canada’s drug crisis
Are Canadians finally waking up to the failures of ‘safe supply’? Adam Zivo breaks down Manitoba’s tougher stance — and why it could spark a national shift.
In the latest episode of Not ‘Sorry’ on Juno News, host Alexander Brown, Director of the National Citizens Coalition, sits down with columnist, journalist, and responsible drug policy advocate Adam Zivo for an in-depth discussion on Canada’s evolving stance on drug policies. The episode dives deep into the nation’s gradual retreat from the peak of ‘safe supply’ and ‘harm reduction’ initiatives, which critics argue have exacerbated public disorder, addiction crises, and community harm rather than mitigating them.
The conversation spotlights Manitoba’s common-sense pivot under NDP Premier Wab Kinew. Zivo references his latest National Post op-ed, praising Kinew’s plan to involuntarily detain methamphetamine users for up to 72 hours in specialized ‘protective care centres.’
This initiative expands beyond outdated ‘drunk tanks,’ offering medical assessments and addiction support while better prioritizing public safety. Zivo argues it’s a necessary corrective to harm reduction’s hands-off ethos, as prolific catch-and-release offenders, even in small numbers, are largely responsible for a disproportionate amount of crime and disorder in communities like Vancouver or Kelowna. The longer they’re off the streets, the better.
Zivo contends these ‘safe supply’ policies, intended to reduce harm, have instead flooded communities with diverted drugs, fuelling addiction cycles and straining emergency services.
Viewers are also invited to attend his upcoming event on November 26 in Toronto, titled ”Debunking ‘Safer Supply’,” held in partnership with Project Ontario and the Centre for Responsible Drug Policy. The event will feature medical experts, former users, and community voices dissecting policy harms shared by the federal government and the province of Ontario.

About time someone leads with reality. Addiction is harmful completely absolutely.
Safe supply was never about helping! It was a diversion to let the caos happen, while do gooders without a clue kept it going and fought changes at every turn.
