The Abbotsford Police Department are on the hunt for a suspect involved in a sexual assault targeting a young girl.
According to police, the suspect in this case is described as between 15 and 20 years old, dark-skinned, approximately five-foot-five, with a medium build, bowl-cut dark brown hair and a short dark beard wearing grey pants, a grey sweater, and white shoes.
Authorities say the young girl was attacked by a stranger late Monday night while alone in Downes Bowl Park.
The incident occurred between 10:00 p.m. and 11:45 p.m. late at night and is the second reported sexual assault in a local Abbostsford public park in less than a month.
Investigators are examining whether it may be linked to a previous incident at Mill Lake Park on March 25, when a woman was assaulted while walking at the park during the evening.
The suspect in that case was described as five-foot-eight, with black hair and a black beard.
The pair of incidents comes as violent crime and public safety remain central issues in the federal discussions during the election.
Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre has taken the lead in raising concern over repeat offenders and perceived leniency in the justice system during the decade of Liberal rule, earning the endorsement of multiple police unions in Canada’s biggest cities.
Liberal Leader Mark Carney, representing the incumbent Liberals has said very few things on the topic of crime and public safety, focusing almost purely on gun buyback policies, which taxpayer groups have slammed as expensive and ineffective.
The Abbotsford Police department said it plans to release a composite sketch of the suspect later this week in order to aid the ongoing efforts to locate the assailant.
