A Bloc Quebecois MP is demanding an end to federal funding for halal and kosher meat producers, arguing that religious slaughter exemptions inflict “pointless suffering” on animals. The MP is also calling for mandatory labelling detailing the method of slaughter.

As first reported by Blacklock’s Reporter, Bloc Quebecois MP Martin Champoux tabled a Common’s petition on Wednesday, which has already received 4,126 signatures. The petition closes on May 21.
