Due to the cost of ongoing renovations and security concerns, the future of 24 Sussex Drive as the prime minister’s official residence is again under debate, raising broader questions about how world leaders live.

There are no uniform rules across countries, and leaders don’t all live in official residences, according to the Ottawa Citizen.

In G7 nations, these homes have varied histories, including ties to royalty, papal figures, fires, bombings, coup attempts, and even ghost lore.
