The Superior Court of Quebec has ruled that the provincial government had violated Charter rights when it ordered a convention centre to cancel an event held by a Christian group over its pro-life stance.

On July 31, Judge Alain Trudel ordered former Quebec Minister of Tourism Caroline Proulx, the Quebec City Convention Centre and the Attorney General of Quebec to pay the plaintiff, an evangelical Christian group, $30,636.92 for its decision to prevent the “Faith, Freedom, Fire” event in 2023.

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre visited an Iranian-Canadian-owned boxing gym riddled with bullets earlier this year, using the stop to renew his call for Ottawa to deport Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) agents and crack down on Iran-backed terrorist groups operating in Canada.

Poilievre sparred with cruiserweight boxing champion Salar Gholami at Saliwan Boxing, a gym struck by 17 bullets during an early-morning shooting on March 1.

Gholami has said he believes the attack was retaliation for hosting an event celebrating reports that Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei had been killed during the U.S.-Israeli strikes that began on Feb. 28. No one was injured in the shooting.

Former Conservative cabinet minister Stockwell Day warns Canada is headed toward Spain’s migrant chaos unless Ottawa gets tougher on illegal immigration.

“This is an INVASION, not immigration,” Day declared in a video posted to X.

Canadian citizen Kaitlyn Tracey has been ordered deported to Canada after pleading guilty to an assault charge stemming from an attack on a teenage girl at a New Jersey boardwalk last month.

Tracey, 33, via telephone from an Immigration and Customs Enforcement processing centre in Laredo, Texas, where she had been transferred after her arrest. Texas immigration judge Guy P. Ryan ordered her removed to Canada, while a New Jersey court sentenced her to one day in jail, with credit for time already served.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security previously said Tracey had overstayed the period authorized under her travel documents, which expired in September 2024, making her subject to deportation proceedings.

The Liberal government’s border crackdown appears to be reducing asylum claims, with federal figures showing applications have been cut in half since Bill C-12 became law.

Internal Immigration Department documents, first reported by Blacklock’s Reporter, say officials are rejecting more refugee claims as ineligible under the tougher rules.

“Canada’s asylum system is not a shortcut to permanent immigration,” the department said in a Jun. 16 briefing note, adding there has already been “an increase in asylum claims that have been found ineligible” since the legislation received Royal Assent on Mar. 26.

Just 13,710 asylum claims were filed nationwide in the three months after Bill C-12 passed, down from 27,838 during the same period last year—a 50 per cent drop.

The law gives cabinet broad powers to suspend or halt the processing of study permits, work permits, visitor visas and other immigration documents whenever it deems doing so to be “in the public interest.”

A Regina mosque has been cleared to resume broadcasting its weekly Islamic call to prayer after police approved a new permit, weeks after online backlash and threats forced the congregation to temporarily stop using rooftop loudspeakers.

Regina City Jamia Masjid announced Friday that the Regina Police Service approved its application to broadcast the Adhan, the Islamic call to prayer, every Friday before midday prayers.

The call will last roughly two to three minutes and will be broadcast through speakers mounted on the mosque’s rooftop.

“We would like to sincerely thank the Regina Police Service, the Mayor and City Council of Regina, local churches, faith leaders, and religious organizations who supported freedom of religion and mutual respect in our community,” the mosque said in a statement.

A Conservative MP is disputing claims that he refused to sponsor a House of Commons petition to repeal Bill C-4, saying he never saw the request and only learned of it after the activist behind the petition publicly accused Conservative MPs of having “our children’s blood” on their hands.

In a video posted this week, military veteran and Mayday Canada member Jeff Evely said Larry Brock became the most recent Conservative MP to decline authorizing House of Commons e-petition E-7314, which seeks to repeal or amend Canada’s conversion therapy law.

“Larry Brock just became the fourth so-called Conservative politician to decline to authorize House of Commons e-petition E-7314,” Evely said.

The activist claimed to have first approached Garnett Genuis, Leslyn Lewis and Matt Strauss, all of whom also declined to sponsor the petition.

Evely then alleges he and detransitioner Faith Grolo, one of Brock’s constituents, later hand-delivered letters to Brock’s constituency office outlining their concerns about Bill C-4, but says the petition was ultimately declined without explanation.

However, Strauss disputed Evely’s account, telling Juno News he never knowingly declined the petition because he never saw the sponsorship request.

“I am not a supporter of C-4,” Strauss said.

Strauss said he receives large volumes of petition sponsorship requests through the House of Commons website and has developed a practice of ignoring them because they arrive without meaningful subject lines and resemble “spam correspondence.”

Five years ago, the federal government drafted a proposal to ban flavoured vaping products across Canada. Five years later, after Health Canada consulted with all stakeholders, that draft remains on the shelf, and Canada’s tobacco-control lobby is furious that it is still there.

Their anger is not primarily about the evidence. It stems from the fact that the government examined the evidence, consulted the people and small businesses the policy would affect, and has decided not to proceed with the proposed flavour ban. This is not bureaucratic delay. It is the system functioning as intended, while also protecting an industry that employs tens of thousands of Canadians.

Here is what the tobacco-control lobby rarely acknowledges. According to the government’s own survey data from the 2024 Canadian Health Survey on Children and Youth, past-30-day vaping among Canadian youth aged 12 to 17 fell from 13.2% in 2019 to 5.8% in 2024, a decline of nearly 60%. This reduction occurred under the rules already in place: age verification at retail, restrictions on marketing to minors, and packaging requirements designed to make these products unappealing to youth.

This is neither a coincidence nor a minor development. Health Canada met its youth-vaping target a full year ahead of schedule. That is a genuine public health success. Rather than building on it, tobacco-control groups are urging Ottawa to reverse course and impose bans based on data from over five years ago.

A better question than the one the lobby repeatedly asks is this: Why would Ottawa base new policy on 2019 figures when the 2024 results demonstrate that the current approach is working? Rapidly declining youth vaping rates are an argument for maintaining and refining existing measures, not abandoning them.

No one defends youth vaping. Flavours, however, are not solely a youth issue, and treating them as such produces flawed policy. Roughly one in ten adult Canadians still smoke. For many of them, flavoured vaping products are among the most effective tools available to quit cigarettes. Smoking kills more than 46,000 Canadians every year.

Removing flavours from the legal, regulated market does not eliminate demand. It simply worsens outcomes. Adult vapers do not switch en masse to unflavoured products. Many return to cigarettes or purchase flavoured products from unregulated sources that lack age verification, quality controls, and oversight. That is not a public-health improvement; it transfers the legal market to illicit suppliers willing to meet demand.

This is not merely an industry position. A growing body of peer-reviewed research on adult smoking cessation shows that flavour variety is a key reason people who switch to vaping remain rather than relapse to cigarettes within days or months. Removing flavours undermines a practical pathway out of cigarette addiction.

The Canadian Vaping Association has consistently supported the measures that produced the youth decline now underway: strict age verification, effective marketing controls, and enforcement against retailers who sell to minors. Public policy should be measured by results, not by the assumption that every new restriction is an improvement. That’s where the case for a flavour ban falls short.

Five years ago, when youth vaping rates were rising, a flavour-ban proposal may have appeared reasonable to policymakers, but even then, the unintended consequences were substantial. Today, with youth vaping reduced by more than half over the same period, the responsible course is to identify what is working and strengthen it.

Before Parliament considers any new regulations, Canadians deserve an honest assessment of the evidence available today, and it shows youth vaping rates declining. The anti-vaping lobby is happy to cite 2024 data, but only the fragments that suit them; a single age group, a single region, carefully chosen to obscure the trend. What they won’t discuss is that youth vaping is down in every survey that has measured it.

The numbers show a regulatory approach that is succeeding. Ottawa should build on it rather than dismantle it. It should not undermine an industry that employs Canadians and offers adult smokers a less harmful alternative simply to claim a symbolic victory.
Canadians deserve the freedom to choose.

Canada’s population fell for a third consecutive quarter in early 2026, fuelling a renewed fight over mass immigration, housing affordability and the country’s collapsing birth rate.

Bernier says the reversal exposes the failure of successive Liberal governments to address why young Canadians increasingly cannot afford homes, children or financial stability.

“It is clear that immigration is not the solution to the demographic dilemma,” Bernier wrote Saturday on X.

Prime Minister Mark Carney is facing mounting criticism after making a series of major trade concessions to the United States while repeatedly failing to identify what Canada received in return.

Over the past year, Ottawa has scrapped its Digital Services Tax, abandoned key financial requirements under the Online Streaming Act and agreed to share Gordie Howe International Bridge revenues with the United States.

It also rolled back most retaliatory tariffs on American goods after evidence suggested the measures increased costs for Canadian consumers.

During a Jul. 29 press conference, a reporter summarized the government’s reversals, saying Ottawa had “capitulated on revenue splitting for Gordie Howe Bridge, digital service tax, and removing funding for American streamers,” before asking: “What has Canada gotten in return for these concessions?”

Carney did not identify a single reciprocal American concession.

The Liberals spent years blocking a full public inquiry into Canada’s pandemic response—now Liberal MP Mark Gerretsen is drawing fire for mocking an inquiry that will hear testimony from Canadians who say they suffered life-altering COVID-19 vaccine injuries.
